Xnergy vs. Flock Safety: trailers, video and license plate recognition

Flock Safety is more than a license plate reader offering. Compare the specific trailer, video and response package against your site’s needs before deciding which platform belongs in the proposal.

Flock issues worth examining

Mountain View terminated its ALPR pilot contract in February 2026 after an audit found access to its data that violated city policy. This concerns a municipal ALPR deployment, not a finding about every Flock trailer. [4]

Flock also acknowledged a limited Condor video-device configuration issue exposing a debug interface. Flock says it corrected the issue and that no trailers, LPR devices or audio devices were affected. [5] Ask how your selected system will be configured, audited and maintained.

Compare the current product categories

Flock’s mobile trailer page lists solar power, LTE connectivity, two PTZ cameras, a panoramic camera, deterrence lights and a talk-down speaker. It also describes integration with its LPR platform and an optional Alert Response Service. Xnergy’s Pro product sheet lists solar-powered operation, multiple camera options, license plate recognition, two-way audio and reporting. These published capabilities show meaningful overlap, not a simple contrast between “video” and “plates.” [1] [2]

Decide whether the main question is a vehicle or an event

An entrance-focused requirement might prioritize identifying vehicles at a controlled lane. A yard-focused requirement might prioritize understanding what a person is doing around equipment. Some sites need both views. Write separate acceptance criteria for the lane and the surrounding activity. A useful test is whether your team could reconstruct the event without mistaking a readable plate for a complete account of what happened nearby.

Review response and sharing as separate decisions

Flock describes optional operator handling of live alerts. Confirm whether that service appears in the actual proposal, and do the same for Xnergy’s monitoring scope. Also ask each provider who can view, export or share footage and how your organization controls those permissions. A sharing workflow that suits one buyer may not match another’s operating model. Document the desired permissions before comparing integrations or network access. [2]

Choose based on the workflow you need

A buyer already operating within a particular platform should evaluate continuity, training and administrative effort alongside hardware. A buyer starting with a new site should first establish coverage, intervention and service requirements. Ask both vendors to demonstrate your scenario with the proposed configuration. Neither a long integration list nor the number of cameras replaces evidence that the offered package supports the way your organization will actually use it.

Put it into practice

Your planning checklist

  • Separate plate-capture requirements from scene-video requirements.
  • Identify which response services are included or optional.
  • Review user permissions, exports and sharing controls.
  • Request a demonstration using representative vehicle and pedestrian activity.
  • Confirm support, service and relocation terms.

Find the right Xnergy configuration

The Pro’s published options include LPR and multiple camera types. The Mini provides another physical format for video coverage; do not assume that every Pro option is included with the Mini.
